Adopt
A Family
The Adopt a Family program has a new look for 2008!
This year, the Assistance League to the Northeast Guidance Center and the Northeast Guidance Center are partnering
with Cortland Academy to provide a new winter coat for each of Cortland’s 200+ students. Cortland Academy is a Highland
Park Public Elementary School. Northeast Guidance Center provides services to many children at the school through its
Early Learning and Literacy programs. Assistance League members are currently volunteering at Cortland to revamp the
school’s library. Through these efforts we have become aware of the many needs of the students attending Cortland,
some of whom currently live in a homeless shelter near the school.
We ask that participants who have so willingly and generously adopted families in the past consider providing a new,
warm, winter coat for one or more of the students at Cortland Academy. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation
Assistance League members will be happy to do the shopping and wrapping. The teachers and administrators at Cortland
will provide the gender and size of the coats needed.
We ask that you also invite others, such as neighbors, church groups or caring, interested friends to consider
joining you in providing coats or making a contribution. After all, sharing the true spirit of Christmas is
the best Holiday Gift we can give to each other and our community.
In these difficult financial times we understand that there are many requests for your charitable dollars
and we appreciate your participation to ensure the students will be warm for the winter.
