"I Like Me!" Art and Poetry Contest

“I Like Me!” is an art contest presented by the Northeast Guidance Center. The theme of the contest is to encourage children to express themselves in a positive way. Since self-esteem is a key issue for many children, children with low self-esteem are more likely to make negative choices, which may lead to a more negative life.

This contest is open to school children, age 14 and under, and is facilitated by the school. In addition to being a good school or home enrichment activity, the self-esteem concept invites classroom discussion on this and other mental health issues.

Information for participation may be obtained by contacting: J. Hill at (313) 921-9340 or jhill@mentalwellness.org.

Award winners will have artwork displayed at Eastland Center in early Spring.

Finalists will be invited to a special Detroit Symphony Orchestra "Young People's Concert" on Saturday, May 3, 2008, with an award ceremony immediately following the concert.
